Digital Works
My digital paintings are physical transformations of Butoh dance, transformed by Photoshop from my own performance documentation.
Butoh, known as the "Dance of Darkness," was founded by Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno after World War II as a means of re-establishing Japanese cultural identity. Butoh dance turned away from modernization and Western dance styles, and founded Butoh on unknown principles such as philosophy, the subconscious, primitive instincts, and ancient, incomprehensible myths.
My body, extracted digitally, is metamorphosed into various forms beyond time and space, such as contracted, cut, and expanded, inducing entropy of corporeality. My physicality, trapped in the internal environment, has spirituality and heat, and continues to breathe and exist.
