THE OTHERNESS CHILD (2025)
PERFORMANCE

kinship2.jpg

This performance emerges from the fragile reality of caring for my aging dog, who has a heart condition and limited time left with me. Through this fleeting bond, I began to explore the entanglement of caregiving, motherhood, and the posthuman connection between species. Where does the instinct to nurture come from? Is it biological, learned, or something beyond our understanding?

The Otherness Child merges Butoh, projection, and embodied ritual to examine kinship, control, and the dissolution of boundaries between human and non-human life. Inspired by Donna Haraway’s theory of companion species, the piece unfolds as a choreography of interconnection—blurring the lines between self and other, human and animal, memory and presence.
